Capturing Multitrack audio with Uncompressed HD

Hey all,

Been looking for several solutions out there to capture uncompressed HD video with multitrack audio. I know the AJA IoHD allows for up to 4 channels capturing with ProRes 422. However I'm looking to capture more than 4 channels at once. I've also seen examples of people doing dual system... audio through a mixer to one computer and video to another computer and combining down the road.

Any ideas?

I would suggest getting yourself an audio guy....most shoots I'm on with alot of audio are usually mixed down to something manageable for editing.

The key is getting everything synced....you can build so many different iterations of multiple inputs that it's nuts.

You could even use 20 cheap audio recorders, clap at the beginning of a take, and drag it all in an sync in post.

This is of course an insane example, but then another example is 20 sources going to a mixer all mixed on the fly and down to 2 tracks.

If I may ask....what exactly are you shooting that requires more then 4 tracks all independently recorded?

I think for more than 4 channels you may be looking at dual system (I could very well be wrong though) - I know boomcorder will handle quite a few channels at once from a mixer with a firewire out. Sorry I'm not too experienced with them, but it may be a good place to start looking.

You probably already have, but there are definitely a few good threads regarding multitracking to boomcorder in the Audio forum.
