Capturing HVX200 tape with vegas problem

Need to use some old footage shot with DVX100 Dv tape format.

using my HVX200 to capture and vegas Pro 8.0

I must be an idiot because i can't figure out how to do this. (sigh).

have deline - need help.

Ths is what I am doing (yielded no results)

1- Put HVX200 on "tape" mode, plays tape fine.

2- cue to the desired spot.

3- Plug my USB cable to camera (same cable I use to download my P2 card to PC)

4- Fire up vegas and select "capture" then "DV" (as opposed to HDV).

5- created a capture folder in Vegas.

BUT I DO NOT SEE MY CAMERA listed in "video" and vegas is not seeing it.

6- I tried "reconned to device" no results.

I may not have the HVX connected right? Am I supposed to use another type of cable?

Can't do it with USB. Must be firewire.

Yes, it's confusing; they tell you to use USB for Windows, but that's for P2 card transfers. For capturing from tape, it's just like any other mini-DV camera. Pretty much no DV capture software will even look at USB.

you dont want to capture usb at all, it's a major loss in quality. usb delivers information in short bursts, which makes it prone to dropouts. firewire delivers it in a constant stream of data which eliminates loss of quality.

also for usb, you need to download drivers, firewire is all plug and play.

MY HVX won't connect during DRIVER INSTALL

Mine won't work for p2 offloading--I've tried and tried to install those drivers o my PC but when the wizard promps me to connec the HVX200, and I do do by USB2--nothing--and I am stuck at that window which keepes telling me to connct te HVX200.#$%&!!!!!
