i've captured 1000's of hours with no errors but now i'm getting a General Error window when trying to capt. a duped tape... no problem witht the original

ideas on what causes this cryptic message?

equip: sony dsr 11 deck
fcp 5.1
dual core g5

I seem to get this error when I start moving a little to fast with the capture controls. Poor G5 can't keep up with me.
:)
I have always assumed that it is an issue with finding the timecode, but I'm not sure. I think I have also seen the error when capturing 24Pa footage as 60i. I guess that is why it is called a "general error". A sort of catch all error.

Also, did you mean dubbed tape? or duped as in copied? or duped as in trashed?

the footage was shot 24p (f5) and then duplicated from an older panasonic ez-1 (late 90's 3chip) to a sony dsr11 deck...

i don't know why the time code issue would arise - but i'm curious to hear feedback on this...

as of now my nexstep is to try another duplication with a different set of decks...

I also have captured well over a 1000 hours and never had a capture error. Now with FCP version 5.1 capturing footage shoot 24PA I've had about 10 VFR errors. FCP says "VFR error can't find timecode for advance pull down removal" I know for a fact there aren't any timecode errors on the tapes. Very strange. I tried capturing at 29.97 then removing frames through the menu option and I still get the error. Dunno if it is a 5.1 issue or not.

my friend tried to help me and found timecode errors while using fcp 4.5 - so it may be my deck/ez-1 combo... i still don't know why there would be these tremendous timecode errors though....
