capturing footage bitrate question

what should be the date rate for my 24p dvx100 clips? all mine range from 2.9 - 4 MB/sec is that right? I searched and came up with nothing about it. what is the data rate on the tape when recorded in 24p. is it a vbr?

As long as you can edit it, ignore the data rate, it can vary.
