Capturing/Editing 25p Footage

Hi there everyone,

I'm trying to edit some DVX100 footage filmed in 25p on version 5.1.2 of FCP, captured onto an external firewire drive. I couldn't capture more than a few seconds before frames were dropped and capture was aborted, so I captured in iMovie instead, hoping to import the files to FCP.

The problem is, the files need to be rendered when placed on the timeline, making editing kind of tricky. I'm guessing I don't have the sequence settings right, but I'm not sure what to change to get it to work.

Does anyone know what to do to fix this? Or how to capture in FCP in the first place?

Thanks for help,

Treve.

I use FCP 4.5 and import as DV PAL 48 khz ("Easy Set Up"). Don't know if that will apply in FCP 5.1.2.

Yeah I think that would work in normal cases, but this is PAL progressive material which I guess it's struggling with.

mrtreve,

in FCP go to user preferences, then, with "general" tab selected
unselect the check box "Abort capture on dropped frames".

Let me know if it's helpful.

Mine's PAL progressive also. At one point I was wondering if it was actually capturing "Progressive", so I sent a clip to DVFilm in Texas to confirm.

Hmmm I'm pretty sure footage with so many dropped frames would be useless. This happened everytime and at different points on the tape, so I assume FCP has a problem understanding 25p footage.

At the time of capture I was running version 5 so maybe if I try to capture it tomorrow (with the updated version) it'll work. Fingers crossed.
