Capturing DV50 footage

I'm attempting to capture DV50 footage that was supposedly shot in 23.98. It appears it was but Final Cut Pro is not capturing the footage properly.

I have selected DV50 as my capture preset and set Final Cut to remove pulldown inside the setting. But I am still getting Clips in 29.97 that have interlacing in them.

I set my in and out points and batched captured the footage. I've done this before with DVCPROHD footage. Any ideas? Could this footage not have been shot in 23.98? It appears to be 23.98.

Ah to do SD @ 23.98 I believe your shooting options are 24P and 24Pa. If they shot on 24P then its gonna come out as 29.97. I think the only way around that is to then use Cinema Tools. If they shot on 24Pa then w/ the "automatic pulldown removal" on you should get 23.98 media. If you know the camera it was shot on that might help someone to answer your question better. Good luck.

cheers.

Ah...

Ah...

So if the client did not shoot with advanced pulldown then Final Cut Pro can't remove the frames? I'm not sure what camera it was shot with.

If they shot 24p and not 24pa do I need to remove pull-down differently on each shot?

I don't think you need to remove the pulldown differently, I think if you just run all the media through Cinema Tools in a batch then you can get the 23.98 clips you want. I'm not a DVX guy though, so not entirely well verse in this workflow. Hopefully someone else will chime in . Good luck.

cheers.

sounds like it was shot as 24P or 24PA. you should confirm that with the camera person.

If it's 24P, capture it as 29.97. Use Cinema tools to do the pulldown. Then import your clips to the 23.98 timeline

If it's 24PA, capture it as 29.97. Since you're capturing DV50, you want to be sure that you have the right presets selected under Audio/Video settings.

Under the capture tab, Select DV 48kHz Advanced (2:3:3:2) Pulldown. Click on Duplicate. Select the copy and edit your settings so that you have DV50 selected instead of DV NTSC. Capture via firewire. This should work.
