capturing and editing 24p footage

hi all,

forgive me if this post seems thoroughly redundant...but after several hours of searching the web i am utterly confused. I need help!

here's where I'm at:

shot a project with a dvx100a for the first time. Shot everything at 24p Standard (aka F5 mode on the camera).
am editing in FCP 4.5 and the
final destination for the project is the web..but might need to make dvd's for the client along the way.
also want to incorporate a few Super 8mm shots that are already transfered to MiniDV into the edit as well.

my main question(s) is this:

1. What setting do I capture my 24p footage at?
normal dv ntsc? dv ntsc advanced 2:3:3:2 pulldown removal? dv ntsc anamorphic? what about cinema tools reverse telecine or 3:2 pulldown removal? i'm confused by all the conflicting advice i've read...

2. What setting do i create my sequence at for editing?
dv ntsc normal? dv ntsc 23.97? dv ntsc anamorphic? again confused here by conflicting info on the web...

3. What does the cinema tools reverse telecine do/achieve?

4. What's the optimal output settings/process for the web (quicktime movie) to keep it looking like it does when i watch the raw footage back in camera?

any and all advice, tips and guidance is GREATLY appreciated. i need to get started on this project and can't figure out what is the best settings/means to get going with.

1) No -- you didn't record it with advanced pulldown... you must now edit it in 29.97. However, you can use 3) cinema tools to remove the 2.3.2.3 pulldown. Just load it in... very self explanatory.

2) again, 29.97... use anamorphic if you shot it that way.

4) messy question. I use h.264 to get the best results. However, no compression will match the raw footage.

thank you captainmench for your reply!
what would be the benefit of bringing the footage into cinema tools and removing the 2.3.2.3 pulldown?
also, if i do that, will i then need to edit in a 23.97 sequence vs 29.97?

Two benefits...

One it would remove the interlaced frames that occur by the added pulldown cadence.

Two it would be a true 24fps video... same frame rate as film giving it that special film look... in frame rate.

thanks again captm!
so if it's 24fps after cinema tools, does this mean edit in a 23.97 sequence?
also, what do you recommend for workflow?
capture normal, edit 29.97 sequence then dump into cinema tools?
or capture normal, load into cinema tools and then edit in 23.97 or edit in 29.97?

ya -- 24.98.

I'd convert the entire captured material because I'm not sure how smart it is to figure out if a FRAME is part of the pulldown or not.

Send up scenes (depending on how you logged and captured it) to Cinema Tools the pulldown will be consistent. If you edit it in 29.97 then there's no telling where the pulldown frames will be when you are done.
