capturing 60i for slo mo

ok, so i've read tons of stuff on doing slo mo by filming in 60i then playing back on a 24p timeline and all that, great. right, so what i want to kno is how i can capture that 60fps on the avi or video file i am going to use for dropping into the timeline. even when i capture/download clips into my computer in 24p the avi is 29.97fps. so it seems that the ONLY frame rate i get is 29.97.

this means that my 24p is not true 24p (no quality complaint here just technical), but more importantly and troublesome, it means that i don't have 60 frames to stretch into slo mo. only 30. that gives me some pretty disappointing slo mo.

my question is: is there a DV capture program that can save a file onto my computer whose frame rate is 60fps?

These programs write a 29.97fps(or lower) file no matter what:
Vegas
DV-PC Recorder
Windows Movie Maker
AVS Media capture Wizard
PowerProducer 2 Gold

Yes, as you can see i'm trying everything. Thanks for responding.

For the 24p stuff, watch:

Everything is on tape as 60i. Vegas will remove the extra fields to give you only the 24p frames.

As for the 60i, it's not 60 frames per second; it's 60 fields per second, each field being half a frame. They say it's 29.97 because supposedly those 60 half-frames make up 30 frames, but that's really a misnomer. It's 60 distinct moments in time, which is why it's useful for slo-mo.

I use the A1 alot for slow mo, and this is my process and can be converted to work with standard def.
I import the 1080 60i clips into vegas, set my project settings to 720P 59.94fps render out the clip as a 720P 60 intermediate cineform. I then import the 720p 60 file into my standard 24P timeline, insert a velocity envelope of 40% speed, dissable resample on the clip and whamo, perfect 720P 60fps slow mo on a 24p timeline. Now all of this can be done in SD as well, just swap out settings for a 480P 59.94fps timeline for the initial render.

- i always thought 60i meant 60fps, i've been reading to fast, david.

- rendering the video at 60fps, holy crap. so simple. so i DIDN't try everything. thanks. i'm gonna go jump around in front of my camera at and seeing the air i get.
