Captures for FCP

Convinced by all previous threads about saving money by buying an inexpensive DV camcorder to use as a playback device instead of a dedicated deck. Has anyone heard anything good, bad or indifferent about the Panasonic PV-GS31? Figured I would keep it in the Panny family instead of buying a Sony, Canon or JVC.

Just make sure it handles timecodes. I use a Canon but because of battery compatibility Panasonic seems like a good choice.

camera or deck for 24p transfer

camera or deck for 24p transfer

On a similar note, my brother owns a Sony DSR-20, has not been used very much but the project he used it for was shot on Sony tapes. I have a DVX100A and need to load my footage into FCP on my laptop. I also have an old Sony VX-1000 and am trying to figure out which of those three I should/can use to transfer/ capture the footage.

On another post I mentioned that about six hours of my footage was shot using 24p advanced, the rest just plain old 24p. (oops) Hope this does not really mess things up. I wanted to hire an editor but my bank account right now says no, so I have to learn more of the specifics.

Any sage advice?

There is a reason the DSR-20 costs like $4,000. Its designed to capture footage. The only reason to use a camera is if you can't afford a pro deck like your brothers.
