Captured m2t files turn into AVI files.

When I capture m2t files, they all turn into AVI files. After 2 years the rig just started doing this. I've checked and rechecked all the properties.

I'm using VMSP 9b and have tried from 2 cameras to an external WD drive. I'm pretty sure it's not the FW ports or cable. I think they're either on or off.

Importing earlier m2t files from the media bin works OK.

Anyone have this happen? Thanks.

The only thought that comes to mind is that the tapes you're trying to capture were shot in SD, not HDV. If so, then I expect they would capture as .AVI files. My understanding is that .m2t files are only for HDV footage.

If these are MiniDV tapes we're talking about, try putting them into an SD camera and see if they play. If they do, then they weren't shot on HDV.

This is a strangely phrased sentence. There are no files on tape. How do you capture m2t files into avi files? This is what I would call "converting".

chapelgrovefilms seems to have got it right: DV-AVI for DV, MPEG-TS for HDV.
