Captured 16x9 DVX footage black bars top and bottom?????

Hey all,

DVX footage shot 16x9 using "Squeeze" mode and when I capture in Vegas it's "squished" (black bars top and bottom instead of full 16x9 screen) and I have to apply a crop to all the footage. This only started happening a short month ago on another shoot.

What the heck am I missing here? Is it capture options? The cam?

Seriously. This is bugging me.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

sincerely,

ian

Just making sure the basics are covered first - the project setting is for NTSC DV Widescreen, right?

Hey 4100.

Yeah. No problems in Vegas.

It's during the capture that it's capturing the footage in that odd way.

Any ideas?

Thanks for responding.

sincerely,

ian

Not to belabor the point, but you're absolutely sure your project settings are for widescreen? Can you post the settings from your project window?

Are you sure you shot squeeze and not letterbox? It's really not possible for VidCap to capture it with bars unless they were there to start with. It doesn't change the footage at any way. It just takes all the 1s and 0s as they are on tape.

Maybe I'm dense here...and if I am I am truly sorry. :(

The issue isn't in Vegas project.

It's during the capture.

The 16x9 preview window shows black bars top and bottom and the footage squished due to the bars.

Have I missed something in capture preferences or some other little window?

Again, if I'm dense...I'm dense. heh.

sincerely,

ian

You must have shot letterbox, because there's no way VidCap would letterbox squeeze footage. It simply transfers the footage as-is from tape.

Hey Dave,

So if I shoot letterbox it does what I've described on capture?

Whereas squeeze is captured correctly?

sincerely,

Yes, because letterbox is actually 4:3 with black bars on the top and bottom.

Squeeze is actual widescreen.
