My gut tells me not to do it.

I use the Panasonic MQ Tape for all of my work.

I have a Tape here that some hack shot some Surf stuff in 60i and it's on a:

Sony DVM60
ME

I don't want to use my DVX with another Tape;. I do not have another way to capture and no one says I have to do this.

Thoughts?

Yeah...
hehe...Couldnt you risk it once??? How many hours you got on it John??
Just promise him a beer and say your really interested in talking about his footage...plus his settings...and then sneakily capture once you've got him in your web....

John, I've been in that situation. If you can get him to bring his camera over, then that's definitely the way to go. If that's not possible, then what I've done is run your cleaning tape on your DVX, then capture his tape, then run your cleaning tape on the DVX again. The whole switching tape thing is only an issue if you switch tapes often and don't clean the heads, then the build-up starts. One tape isn't going to ruin your camera.

Now if it's a DVX monogomy thing, well, that's a whole different topic. :)

Intresting... I don't know about you guys but I got the DVX 4 months after it came out and been using different tapes up the hiney all the time. I don't ever remember my DVX having any drop outs or bad heads. I do clean the heads occasionally but my DVX is still in perfect condition. I use and capture any thing from Sony, TDK, JVC, and of course panasonic. No problems as of yet.

You must know someone (a neighbor, friend) that has a cheap consumer MiniDV camera. Just use that.

Good luck!
