i have a digital camcoader and when i go to capture image it does not read my camera but it reads my VHS-C camera. its a sony digital camcorder and the preview says "Preview is turned off" i went to go and try to reconnect .. that does not work i have it on smart preview so it should read when i hit play in my editing mode. The Cam it sees is cirrus logic USB-DVR2 Source

How are you connecting the Sony camera to your computer, if USB that will not work must be firewire. Its funny the VidCap will see a USB web cam but not DV cam on USB

Do you have a LAN adapter on a firewire card (check your Network Properties to see what LAN adapters there are)? If so, that could be your problem.

I don't know how to fix it, but I had the same problem with a Sony VAIO notebook. When I plugged in a PCMCIA firewire card and connected my camera (DVX100A) to it, everything worked.

I remember reading about how to fix the firewire LAN stuff in Spot's Vegas Editing Workshop, but I don't have the book with me, so I can't help... :(

When I start Vidcap, it always shows the notebook's built-in web cam first - I have to go to the menu bar and select another source to see the DV camera's image.

But when I use DVRack, I see the DV. Isn't that weird? I learned to live with it, though... it's just a couple extra clicks.

You can get a firewire cable at any Best Buy or Circuit City. But does that camcorder have a firewire out? Not all do, actually.

And does your computer have a firewire port? If not, you'll need a firewire card -- video cards generally do not have firewire ports.
