Capture video - DV-AVI

Is there any other option for import that is of better quality? I assume that the DV-AVI is what the camera outputs through its hardware, but is there any, like, RAW format that can be captured?

If there is I don't know of one. I am a PC user and that is the only option when I capture with Premiere. I am not sure but I think Macs capture with quicktime. Is that wrong?
