Anyone wanna shed light on the process? Couldn't figure it out last night, didn't want to convert to DVCproHD when ProRes is the same using less space.
PRO RES DOES NOT USE LESS SPACE THAN DVCPRO HD! People HAVE to grasp this. ProRes uses less space than UNCOMPRESSED HD. It is a 28MB/s codec, where DVCPRO HD is a 12MB/s codec. I takes up little more than twice as much space as DVCPRO HD.
Also, you cannot import P2 footage as a different codec that it was shot with. It is what it is.
I suggest transcoding to ProRes 422 AFTER you have finished your cut and are ready to color correct...to get you into the 10-bit color space.
