Como's back. back again
hey guys, im capturing 24pa , so in my capture settings im using hte pulldown, but i also wanna captre in widescreen mode, but i cant do both, so if thre a way i can do both?

ok so im really sorry, i found the thread on this, but whe n icheck the box for anamorphic, i dont see the black lines at the bottom adn top (widescren) will u see this when u export it as quicktime?

SD is 720 x 480. When you set a camera to Squeeze mode, it squeezes a 16x9 image into a 720x480 frame still. So what you have on tape and what you digitize is 720x480 and is full frame (just like if you hadn't shot squeeze at all). The only difference is that in that 720x480 the footage is squeezed (wrong proportions/ratio). You cool with that?

So in FCP when you turn on the Anamorphic flag, all you're doing is telling FCP to play back the 720x480 at 853x480. Its still 720x480 file, just playing back at a 16x9 frame size (applies to both the clips and the sequences). So all it does is stretch the image horizontally for you to get you to 16x9. It still maintains the full frame. So you should have a more pronounced rectangle (versus 4x3), but it still should fill the frame, no black bars.

Black bars are called letter boxing. This is when you take a 16x9 image and put it into a 4x3 frame size. When you do your final output, you can certainly make a 4x3 sequence and put your 16x9 clips on it to letterbox it (I think that works). If you're going out to DVD and use Compressor and DVD Studio Pro, simply make a SD 16x9 DVD. If a person gets that DVD and has a 16x9 setup then they get to watch it in its full glory. If the person only has a 4x3 setup, the DVD will be automatically converted into a letterboxed playback for them.

cheers.

Oh right, by the way, you might really want to invest in Noah K's DVDs. They will provide for you a really good reference to have at hand while doing your projects. Noah (or someone that has the DVDs) can confirm this, but I believe he also covers going all the way from DVX Anamorphic tape to 16x9 DVD. He definitely goes into detail about the 24p vs 24pA stuff, which you have also asked about on this forum. Again, I would really recommend you consider the purchase.

cheers.
