Capture settings for 24fps (yawn, again?)

Hello Everyone,
I know this has been asked a million times, but I just want to get a quick and straight answer without confusing the issue in my head.

I want to capture footage I filmed on my DVX 100A in 24fps (not advanced) NTSC.
I have FCP 5, newest version. There are many options available to me and I can't seem to work out which is best. I was reading a thread on this matter by Noah but unfortunately I lost it.

Thanks in advance,

Philip

Easy set up DV NTSC.

Yup...

FCP menu> "Easy setup">DV NTSC 48kHz (if in the US) - - DV PAL (if in a PAL country)

And yes, you could find this answer by spending five minutes looking... but it's all good.

Thanks fella's. So I can learn, why not DV-NTSC 24p (23.98)?
The camera outputs for a 29.97 fps regardless of what mode you shoot in. There is no 24fps output. In either mode the camera is actually taking pictures at 24fps but like I said the camera outputs for 29.97fps. In order for the clips to look normal in an NTSC timeline pulldown is added in both cases. 24p is designed to leave in the pulldown so you can just edit in a 29.97 timeline (NTSC) wheras 24pa is designed for the pulldown to be removed (by your NLE)so you can edit in a 23.98 (24fps) timeline.

There are advantages to both. 24fps timelines look more filmic and are more suitable to be converted to film, whereas NTSC timelines are the standard for television, and also are nice because you can edit your 24p clips right alongside standard NTSC footage.

There's much more to it than that but those are the basics. Don't worry about the confusion, it's confusing- but it's worthwhile to understand what's happening so you aren't always wondering what you might or might not be doing wrong.

Now with all that said I'm sure someone who knows better will correct me where I'm wrong. lol
