capture question

I think I may go the tapeless route.

Do I have to have programs like Raylight or DvRack to capture to my latop, or can I just capture in vegas via firewire?

Is this a good idea? Are there any drawbacks?

I really don't have the $$$ for firestore and I hear DvRack is buggy as hell and has update/activation problems.

Thanks!:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I have the same question as I will soon be capturing from an HVX using P2 cards. Looking forward to an answer. Heh.

if your using p2 you no longer need to capture ...you just drag the files off of the card and then your done.

you mean while recording to your harddrive ???? you can just hook up ur dvx to your nle thru firewire and just click the capture button and then its recording in to ur harddrive...but that way you have to bring your labtop with ur dvx every where you go

You don't need Raylight for the DVX. Just capture.

Raylight doesn't do anything for you with the DVX. It's a tool to work with .MXF files.

If you're capturing live with DV Rack, then you already have your .AVI files.

What if I don't have DvRack? Just Sony Vegas.

Do I just plug the cam in firewire, hit record and capture?

Thanks for the replies guys.

If you want to capture live, first, open the capture program. Then, go into Options>Preferences and then uncheck "Enable DV device control."

Then, just press "Capture."
