I just got a dvx100b and i capture and edit using FCP, but when i capture in 24p, (not 24pa) the quality is TERRIBLE. When i hook the camera up to a tv it looks amazingm but when captured it looks horribly compressed and just flat out bad. It looks out of focus, edges look rough and it doesnt look sharp and crisp. Is it my capture settings? My computer ? I use a powerbook g4 1.67 with 1gb ram. any ideas?

Two things might help...

1) Clean up that room!!!

2) Watch on an external monitor from FCP. Change your preview settings to HIGH (little RT button upper left of the sequence window.)

Good luck,

yeah but see the problem isnt in editing the footage, its after i capture it, then out of FCP i watch the clips in quicktime and they look terrible, my gl-1 footage looked better then these do.

i'm having the exact same problem. any ideas? i've captured with both 'DV-NTSC 24P (23.98) Advanced Pulldown Removal' and 'DV-NTSC 24P (23.98)'. i shot at 24p.

If you shot in 24p and not 24pa, i don't think the advanced pulldown removal will work. I think 24p follows a (2:3:2:3) pulldown, whereas the advanced pulldown is (2:3:3:2).
Try capturing it using the standard DV-NTSC and then try putting that footage into a DV-NTSC 24p timeline and see what happens.
