When i log my footage and hit batch to capture i get a pretty long wait with the little pinwheel then it attempts to capture and drops frams all the time.
This is on a new dual 2 G5 and i upgraded fcp 3 to 4.5 hd.
What could be wrong? mybe something in my pref.?
Help.
Ok, just tried a different tape that i've worked with before and it does the same.
what im doing is going to file-log and capture
i set the in and out point to the clip i want and hit log. i name the log i just did and then hit bacth.
the capture window comes up gray and i get a load time with the pinwheel. after a while of waiting (a long while) it begins to capture and the capture window plays it really choppy and then it stops and tells me it dropped frames. and this is a capture of a 6 sec clip.
Something is definitley wrong. i set my capture scratch to my external HD and thats pretty much the only change i made to the pref.
i cant figure it out.
this is a common problem. it has already been summed up in many posts but it could be a few things. Dirty heads on your cam, and external hardrive with too much stuff already on it. Close all programs and then try. is your camera set to record run and not free run?
imovie captured without a problem.
The external harddrive has nothing on it.
im not sure what you mean by 'record run' and 'free run'
not sure whats going on
record run and free run on the dvx in the menu under recording settings. TCG rec run. I had this issue a while back when i had it set to free run. Its because FCP needs the exact time code off the tape otherwise it may go nuts (from my experience).
oh im not using the dvx as a capture deck. i have a little jvc that i use for that. the heads seem to be fine and imovie captures without a hitch. im getting frustrated now.
Have you rebooted the computer? It is definatley fcp if the wheel is spinning for a while. If the reboot doesn't resolve the issue try trashing the preferences and reset your scratch disk. Are you capturing from Imovie to the external drive also?
Try capturing to your internal drive. If you have a camera and firewire drive you may run in to trouble. If that's the case you may need a firewire card.
The timecode settings people mentioned are for when you're shooting the material. If there's timecode problems then you may have problems.
Do a repair permissions and check the amoutn of memory you have.
Start up activity monitor and see if there's a lot of other things running that you installed.
Ok, so i changed the capture scratch back to the internal HD and its working fine. Looks like its the external thats messing with it. im going to try and reformat it, unless there was something i did wrong switching the capture scratch.
