Capture problem; new programs interfere

Ppro 1.5 has been working perfectly for 2 years. After installing Nero 6 video capture stopped working. Removed Nero, capture works again. This happened twice (another person reinstalled Nero without my permission). Now apparently some 3D programs are doing the same thing. I would like not to delete those programs and handle this conflict some other way.

Do I:

1) reinstall the whole PPro? Would this mix up my projects (5 large ones are "open")

2) reinstall some drivers? Which are they and how do I do it?

3) start deleting all recent programs which have anything to do with video?
 
Using a computer which is a NLE for other things isn't the best approach if the NLE task could be considered "mission critical". You can certainly have multiple configurations for a machine which is running XP Pro by using different user accounts for each configuration. That way, you can get your PPro installation back to a stable working state and have other user setups to support the other tasks.
 
It would be nice to have separate computers for each task, but I do not have enough room for that... It is good enough that the edit station is not networked.

I finally figured it was the new HP printer that was doing that, deleted all extra goodies that came with it and capture started working again. Have not tested yet if the printer still works...
