capture options

Alright, I have a dell dimension C521 which is a slim case. Giving me no room or option, that I can find, for adding a capture card. I also have an Inspiron 1501 laptop running Ubuntu. Both of which were gifts, so I didn't really have any say in what hardware they came with.

Are their any options out their for me to capture DV from a DVX with what I have?

or

is my best option just to get a new PC?

Now I don't have the DVX (or other miniDV cam for capture) as of yet, I'm trying to figure out all this stuff before I get one.

All you need is a firewire port. more than likely you have one. If not, then yep you're screwed. - they may have a USB to Firewire converter though - never looked for it, so I couldn't tell you.

If you do decide to sell, get a computer built. That's what I do. You'll find that you get more room in the box, a much faster PC with more stuff. But be smart in your build. At this point what I would recommend is below:

Intel Quad Core Processor (Clock Speeds 2.0GHz to 2.8GHz)
4 GB of RAM
1 - 500GB Hard Drive - main drive for operating system
2 - 1TB Hard Drives - for movie/video editing
A great Audio and Video Card (at least $100 on audio and $200 on video)
Windows XP Professional - don't get the home user stuff. Pro works better. I run my whole home office (3 PCs) off of pro and please don't get Vista.

hope this helps
