Capture LP

I have a few LP's and singles. I want to digitize them. But how?

I have
- a record player
- a PC
- Focusrite scarlet 2i2
and a Blackmagic Decklink

Do I need more? Any tips, suggestions?

Thanks and Happy Newyear

Yes sorry Paul, only a turntable.

So I will need a preamp or a ampifier I guess.
Now I have to organize an expedition to my attic to try to find and recover my old amplifier. Or buy the pre-amplifier.

Thanks!

Nah, just like old books for my e-reader, to old for CD or MP3. Some music and some books aren't digitized yet. This single I want to digitize is an old Christmas single 40 years old. With a male choir and a boy soprano.

High end digitizing of vinyl will cost you plenty. Even a decent cartridge is expensive, add a precision turntable and you can spend a whole bunch. For not so important work, you can buy turntables with A-D converters built in with USB output for (relatively) cheap. I have one of the ION units, and it works pretty well. Think I paid under $100 a few years back.

I enjoy buying records especially on record store day. Its fun meeting music fans. I’ve been collecting vinyl for several years now and love the sound, the amazing artwork and extras that come with vinyl, holograms, written messages, Needle loops at the end of a track .its a different way to listen to music, somewhat meditative. Yes you can get a affordable turntable that has a dedicated preamp in it today and usb it to your computer.

Sound Forge Audio Studio is relatively low cost editing software for this. You can encode MP3s, AAC end user formats. and author audio CDs. Sound Forge Pro is more $, but worth it for pro audio folks.
You still want a RIAA pre-amp in front of the A/D interface though.
