I've been working on location the last couple of days and I'm working with a really temperamental machine.
Yesterday we couldn't get VTR or video. I messed with it and got VTR by switching firewire ports but still no video. I updated everything and tried again- nothing. We tried it with a laptop and the video came in fine, as it did in imovie. I messed with the settings in final cut and on the deck and magically got video but no VTR, even though I set the settings back to exactly what they were. Eventually, VTR magically started working, too.
Today I come in and all the settings are the same, but I'm getting VTR, but no video. I've messed with everything again (including trashing prefs) but no luck. No video is coming in in imovie either. I'm not getting "preview disabled" until a few minutes after I start playing a tape, at first I just get black, as if FCP
The machine was just moved and it is so tempermental that I'd guess a firewire pin got bent, but it's one of those new firewire cords that doesn't appear to have pins. I don't have another firewire cord to try and no one is here today (lord knows why I couldn't just do this at home). I've gotten a monitor image all of today and yesterday, so it's not the deck.
Any suggestions?
Specs:
FCP 7
Sony HDV/ DV CAM deck
The tape I'm using is a mini dv, though no hdv tapes work either.
The deck shows up in the firewire settings
Video is definitely checked.
Everything is pal and set for pal
Capture/input is set for DV PAL 48 khz- which worked fine yesterday and I've run it through every possible pal setting and a few ntsc.
iLink is off
HDV/DV set to auto.
