Capture Issue with FCP; Can I use iPhoto?

Today I began getting the following error message while trying to capture: "Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape..."

After trying several tapes (one which I successfully captured from of only 3 weeks ago) I gave up and tried iPhoto. I've never used the program before but, was able to capture the footage this evening and I imported it into FCP for the edit. This project is not reliant on brilliant looking footage but, the footage I filmed today (and will need to capture tomorrow) does needs to look very good.

I have two questions: 1. Without iPhoto removing the DVX's pulldown, how bad will this screw up my finished piece after cutting in FCP?
2. Is there any way to re-teach FCP to capture from my DVX100b? I'd much prefer capturing from it.

Doesn't 24P advanced look really juddery when played back without pulldown removal? And once the project is edited, wouldn't it be impossible to remove the pulldown since the cadence will be different for each clip? (I'm only phrasing those as questions because I don't have hands on experience with them, but I know I've read the about the juddery playback) Those are the two issues I see with regards to your first question.

Have you tried capturing from another camera? When you play back on the DVX, do you see any glitches / dropouts?

I don't see the jitteriness, dropouts, or anything out of the ordinary when I playback the tape on the DVX.

I don't have another device to capture mini DV from unfortunately. The thing is, I captured successfully with iMovie so I doubt it's the DVX that is the problem. Any ideas?

I'm going to re-post this in the DVX100 thread in hopes I'll get some ideas. They'll probably bump it to this thread but, it's worth a try!
