capture in FCP looks REALLY interlaced, 24p S5

I've been using this same camera, same settings for years (DVX100A in S5 24p). No problems. I leant it to someone who swears they didn't change anything in the menus (and I verified this) and I just went to import my first footage since I got it back and in the log and capture window, there are crazy horizontal interlace lines??? What could have changed? Could it be a setting in fcp? Keep in mind, this is in the log and capture window, not even in the timeline? I 'm freaked out that there's something wrong with the footage, any ideas? Thanks!

You need to settle down and think this through.

You have display settings on the DVX that will show you what format it was shot in.

Capture a little and step thru the footage on the timeline at 100% size. How many frames have interlace lines? ALL? 1 every 5? 2 every 5?

Slow down and start thinking.

Hey Cap'n. in sequence, frames 1, 2 and 3 are fine and both 4 and 5 have lines. repeat same pattern. It doesn't seem as bad in now that it's imported and I've had this problem before where it looks fine on my Apple Cinema display, but once we look at it on a normal tv (tube or ntsc) it's crazy interlaced. So I'm wary to trust my cine display now (can't yet afford to spring for an ntsc monitor...)

This is exactly what 24p settings will do with the DVX.

Google for what interlaced lines really are and you might get a clue as to why your computer monitor looks different than an NTSC monitor.

Glad you're ok now.
