Capture footage from tape without logging?

Hey guys,

Does FCP allow you to set it up so that you can capture the entire tape without logging in and out points? But have FCP break the footage down into sepreate clips when ever the the record button was turned on and off?

Meaning, when there is a break in the tape, when the DP starts and stops the recording, will FCP separate the clips?

In Sony Vegas I remember that you had this option. You can dump the entire tape and Vegas would seperate the clips at every break in the tape. Does FCP do this?

Hey Mike,

If you are shooting DV, then yes, you can do this. You select capture now, or set the in and out points for the whole tape. When you are done and have the clip in FCP, there is an option in one of the menus called DV Start/Stop Detect, which will put markers every spot in the footage where there is a start/stop detected.
