Capture error fix - maybe this has happened to you

This has happened to me before and maybe to some of you as well. For some reason video is recorded to tape in my DVX with timcode breaks which causes errors during capture (24pa). There are no dropouts when just playing back the tape but the capture errors will cuse them. An easy fix was i changed my capture sttings to "non-controllable device" and manually pressed play on my capture cam and captured now the footage and all worked well. This may have already been posted around here before but thought id share my experience in case its happened to you.

if anyone knows what may cause the probblem when recording to tape please chime in.

Well after reviewing my footage i had audio sync problems which were fixable but i guess that wasnt the perfect solution to that error :)

TC breaks on digital video cameras is "technically" not supposed to happen, but it does. More on some models than others. In your User Preferences set the "On Timecode Break" setting to "Warn After Capture". Simple as that.

Sound out of sync, 99 out of 100 times, has to do with setting your capture settings to a different audio sample rate from what the camera recorded audio at.

Thnaks Ben! I will remeber that if and when it happens again. Its happened to me once or twice before with my DVX. Thought it might just have been a bad tape or something.

Audio settings were correct for the capture. I havent chnaged my capture settings for the two years ive had the DVX except when i changed it to Non-controllable device to be able to capture this tape. I didnt need to render the audio in the timeline so im guessing it captured @48k.

Alwasy double check your camera before you shoot! Never "assume" any of your camera settings are what the were last time you looked at the camera's menus.

I've helped three folks in the last year who swore up and down the camera was set fine. When I pushed for a photo of the camera's menu to email me to prove it, all three just emailed back, "Damn, how'd that get changed?"

Never assume anything, double check all settings before shooting and before capture.

Let me know if you have any other problems.
