Capture compression question

Hi Gang.

I've really only captured and worked with DV footage in FCP (well, HDV once).
When working with SD, is there a compression that occurs on capture? Or is everything the same from capture to export (assuming I don't add any compression on export)?

Are you capturing the SD footage via capture card or firewire? If you are capturing through firewire then your footage will be compressed as if it were DV. If you are capturing from a 3rd party capture card, there should be no compression. Hope that helps.
