Hi im a newbie to this forum and a newbie to video so please excuse my lack of knowledge and what are pretty basic questions to this forum.

ive tried reading the xha1 manual and watching the adobe tv tutorials etc but im still confused as hell ! All the gear and no idea tbh :-)

I have bought an xha1 . I have recorded some clips in HDV 50i 1080i/576i setting on the camera. (UK/PAL )
I used a vididrgb preset, i used a manfrotto 501 hdv tripod and slow movements. mainly D.O.F pull focus on natural subjects.

HD DOWN-CONV set to OFF.
COMP OUT set to 1080i

I then set premiere pro cs5 to capture format in DV mode .

I am unsure though what sequence preset should i use when creating new project as most of the clips where i slowly pan or pull focus are interlaced or flickering really badly in my capture screen. they are fine on xha1 lcd screen but not on pc after capture ?.

I tried various HDV sequence presets with no cure to my problem . What preset should i use before capture with 50i or 25f in 1080i ?

Do i have to render the clips before edit to get rid of the interlace?

I want to export in H.264 to vimeoHD from premiere pro in both 50i and 25f ........if and when I eventually get the hang of using the camera and editing !

I have set something up incorrectly anyway thats for sure !! any advice more than welcome and thanks in advance.

yours confused !

Andy

Use a sequence that matches your footage.

Don't use the internal Premiere Pro monitors for judging quality. They are there for content monitoring only. To judge quality, you will need to connect a properly calibrated external TV of the highest quality you can afford. For SD media, an older CRT standard definition set is best. For HD media, use an HDTV that matches the resolution of your media (720 or 1080) to avoid any scaling.

Set everything in the camera to hdv and not auto.
Set camera in the correct settings then connect to pc with power off. Turn power on and wait for windows to ask you what you want to do. Click on Premiere.
You need to set Premiere Capture format to HDV. (you can do that in the Project Settings or in the Capure Settings (F5)
Choose the HDV 1080i25(50i) preset or drag a clip into the New Item icon in the Project Window.
Capture screen is but a preview its not full resolution, so dont worry.
When exporting to Vimeo use the Vimeo preset its under H.264.
Don;t mix 50i with 25f on the same tape.

Thanks very much for your advice Ann and Jim.
I rendered in the timeline and it got rid of the interlacing and then i exported in H.264 / 720 to vimeo but seem to have lost my HDV altogether now !

Its sharp at all and in a tiny widescreen. think ive got some reading to do ! :-)

Dont deinterlace extra. The Vimeo preset will do that for you. It is set to progressive.
You probably used the SD vimeo preset instead of the HD.
You might want to do some editing too: loose the zooms and the pans that go nowhere. Like the pull focus.

Thanks Ann .. Have got the footage capturing in HDV as we speak :-) will re edit and take your advice and cut the pans zooms etc and post final result.
the previews im playing in media player are making me giggle ! its awesome !! :-D just what i wanted .....
anyway
thanks again
dank je wel!
