Capture a scene from DVD to Vegas

Hi all,

I was thinking on editing a gag sequence with my own footage together with some existing scenes from a movie. I was wondering how I import a scene from a DVD movie into Vegas? Do I need another software to do this?

If yes, which one is the best software to use. I only need a few scenes, and would prefere if the software can let me fast forward with image to where the scene starts, and from there grab the given scene down to my harddisk in a AVI file.

How would go about doing this?

Would appreciate any help in this matter.

Sincerely yours,
Gromit

You can open the DVD as a data disc, take the .VOB file, and drop it directly into the Vegas timeline. You can't "fast forward" that way, but it should be no problem trimming out what you don't want.

I tried going to a dvd music video, and tried to import the vob file into Vegas media pool, but I got an error message in Vegas to the effect that file incompatible, or something like that. Am I doing this the wrong way, or is it possibly because of copyright problem?

What is involved in copy protecting a dvd that I author? I am not so much asking about a legal copy protect as much as just preventing duplication of the dvd.

You'd have to go through Macromedia or another copy-protection company.

Okay, if understand this right, one has to rip a copy-protected DVD first in order to use a given scene.

If a DVD is copy-protected how can one import VOB file into media pool?

And if the DVD is region-free won´t the whole VOB file take up to much space in the media pool.

I just wish one could use a small software program to locate a given scene, and then save it onto the harddisk, from where one can import the file into media pool.

If someone has fiddled with this, please post how to do it.

All the best,

I have no intention of mass produce a copyprotected DVD. This just for fun stuff at home
