Heres the situation, for this show I have limited money to spend those keeping up with the other posts I have on the forum know for sound and other things of that nature for our main stuff at my company we have a relatively endless budget, however for this the companies sponsoring our projects did not want to do this show so we have to do it in house out of our own pockets, so heres what we have
Right now I have tape based cameras and a P2 based camera, 3 tape ones 1 p2 one and may be getting more for this show, now the show is similar to Leno and those ones so its flat lighting and I have figured all that out already as far as lighting goes, what ideally I want to be able to do is connect all cameras (up to 8) to some kind of box that will then encode it or capture it and send it to the computer all at once, easy to do with one camera I dont know about 8, the tape cameras have HDMI and Firewire 400 and the P2 has HDSDI, HDMI, Firewire 400 and a bunch of others, but since we have to keep our budget low, its gonna have to be a HDMI or Firewire 400 direct into computer(unless there is a HDMI to HDSDI?), we can run cables and do all that to a central computer that ideally would capture all of the data in real time, if possible an HD switcher would be nice but it is not necessary, the only thing that would be really nice is if those inputs have outputs that way I can connect it to Monitors for live viewing of the camera angle(make sure its in focus and all that)?
Is there something that will allow me to connect 6-8 HDMI or Firewire 400, and encode to an HD format of some kind, HDV, Pro Res etc? Right now I have an 8 core mac pro 2.93ghz, 512gb ssd, and 16gbs of ram, so that should be fine for anything that we need, HOWEVER if need be I can custom build or get a pc, that would allow for capturing to pc file format and do editing and post and output on a pc file basis, through Premier or one of those.
Also each camera will have a lav mic plugged into its 3.5mm port and if possible sent through the firewire or HDMI, the only problem is we need separate files as we will be recording and mixing it all together, when people talk and what have you, so if 8 video tracks 16 audio tracks assuming left and right for each!
Is there any way to do this, ideally as low budget possible, but I know we have to buy something to achieve this so we will buy whatever is needed for it!
Thanks
