I was just hanging out with some friends last night and someone posed this question. None of us could come up with an answer, so I figured I'd turn it over to you guys (and gals.)
I'm stumped, so maybe I'm the nitwit. ( for clarification, I extracted the "N" word out of my first post, just in case it my hurt TC's feelings ) Others, do offer your theories.
Capt Hook was already a respected and feared captain when he lost his hand. Did all of his crew just start calling him that when he got the hook? I would imagine that he would be pissed off at that.
Or did he decide on the name change himself?
Bringing up a good question, what was his name before hook?
his name was Capt john t. winters. he was supposed to have been a clipper captain untill his beloved wife clara was killed in a pirate attack. he spiraled into depression and his life became revenge and he swore he would hunt down every last pirate and kill them all. in his life of hunting them at sea he slowly became like them, untill he finally was embodied by it, and embraced being a pirate as the final resolution of his lost love. he then lived on with the deranged and self consumed mind that we meet him with in the film.
