Canvas window problem

Normally I can click on the canvas window, grab the green line at the edges and stretch the image larger or move it around. After trashing preferences, I have gotten into a mode where this is not possible. The green line is there, but the image can't be moved or enlarged. The controls in the window also look slightly different. How can I get back into the previous mode? FCP 5.1.4

Also, (I'm in the middle of a 40 minute movie project), just after trashing
preferences, I suddenly have to render audio a lot more. Typically I have added
just one extra audio clip (AIFF) below the 4 HVX channels. Is this normal, or do I have a preference setting out of whack? I have checked and double checked
that sequence settings are the same as the footage.

Do you have image+wireframe selected from the drop down menu in the canvas?

Nope- that was the problem. I completely forgot about that drop down menu. Thanks
for the quick solution. Now if I can just figure out this rendering thing...
