I have a cheap little samsung smx-f35 great little flash cam that i guess record h.264 footage, NTSC. First off it takes a few plug in/out's to get my mac to see the camera which is only seen as a storage device basically. If i take the clips of the camera they are pretty large in size even for little clips and they say .mov and are h.264 but i cant watch them in quick time or import to FCP unles i convert them with software to DV or some other format. Whats the issue here, do i really have to convert to use the footage on my mac, FCP system???

The camera is they're youtube instant video line crap and comes with moviemaker type pc software etc...

Thanks in advanced

h.264 isn't a very edit friendly codec, standard practice is to convert from this codec into something that NLEs like FCP prefer - ProRes, DV and the like. As far as current technology is concerned, converting them is probably going to be your only option, I'm afraid...

Ok so maybe it was my ibook g4 10.3.9 FCE? On my powermac FCP i was able to import the mp4 clip into the project and then the sequence, although it requires rendering. So id be better off converting to DV then editing.

Thanks for the post !
