can't wait any longer

I need a MAC to be able to finisch my education as "digital video producer" in A'dam. I wanted to wait for the new MAC pro but it seems they will not be there before March 2010. So I decided to buy a secondhands iMac (2.4 GHz, 4 Gb RAM) as intermediate untill the new Mac pro's arrive. My question is if the above described iMac is suitable to edit AVC-I-100 in FCS and other software like Motion, AE and photoshop which I all "have to use" in the projects for my education ? I am especially afraid that the AVC codec requires a more powerfull MAC. Any recommendations/advisce and opinions based on own experiences are welcome.

edit : it is an Intel iMac

Is that an Intel Mac or PPC? If it's Intel you should be fine. If not, not so fine.
