Can't stop the Squishing

I have this letterboxed 2.35 aspect ratio movie that I can't seem to get converted to quicktime properly. I tried five billion different ways and they all squish the picture down. I tried 16x9 letterbox and crop in three different pixels sizes, tried 4:3 same way they all do the same bullshit, the only thing that changes is the amount of detail and color or occasionally it crops off a side of the picture and squishes it.

Shot in 30p full 4:3
Captured and edited, cropped to 2.35 using matte filter in Final Cut Express
Then went to, File>Export>Using Quicktime Conversion...
Various settings that all lead to squished crap.

hmmm.. how about.. open in quicktime, press apple J, select video track, change pixel size to whatever you want, deselect preserve aspect ratio, and save as.

If you have only masked it as letter box, you are still dealing with a 4:3.

Its not 16:9 or anamorphic or anything but 4:3

Export as you shot it.

Thanks Shooter, I thought I had tried 4:3, and I had, but the thing that made the difference was that the 'preserve aspect ratio' wasn't used and that seem to clear it up. This whole ordeal has seriously given me an ulcer.
