CAN'T OPEN MY PROJECT!

I have 2 completed projects that I cannot open! Everytime I go to open them I get this message: The Movie File Virginia Beach-FIN- 00000024 cannot be found. Without this file, the movie cannot play properly. Then it gives me the option to search or cancel. I cannot locate the file anywhere! Where should I be looking? I DIDN'T DELETE NOTHING YET. Why is FCP not allowing me to even open my project up on the timeline? If I knew exactly what clip is missing maybe I could throw another clip in its place or something. My projects were playing fine with NO problems until one day I tried to open it and I got that message. I even checked my TRASH CAN on the desktop and nothing was in there. Where are project files usually kept? How can a file be missing when I didn't delete it? This is frustrating because it seems like all my work on those 2 projects might have been for nothing if I cannot figure this out and prevent it from happening again!

Please help if you have an idea of what is going on or how I can locate those files. Once I do locate them then what do I do? Should I be looking in my Capture Scratch folder? If so, I did that then I clicked on my project and all the files there are unclickable. When I click Cancel it then tells me its a General Error! I don't know what the deal is!

Another strange thing happened when I tried to open that project was that my Timeline didn't come up on the screen, and my Canvas window didnt come up either. The only thing on the screen was the Browser and the Viewer! When I clicked on Window from the top menu, Canvas, Tool Bench, and Timeline were unclickable so I couldn't select them to be on the screen! Again, what is the deal for this all of the sudden?

i dont use FCP at all.. but man this seems to happen to alot of people.

Question: Are these "completed" projects reference movie files as opposed to self-contained QT or FCP files?
FIN-files are usually render files. My guess is that you had sequences (timeline) with the same sequence name, you exported the "final" as a reference movie. And that works, very well until you create or go to a new project, where there is another sequence with the same name. So in your render file folder/bin, you've deleted the original and replaced it with the new version.
Just a guess.

the only thing is that i didnt delete anything yet. FCP was putting my files in the trash for some reason and I had to slide them back into the folder they came from.

If you rendered in a sequence that the reference movie uses, then yes, you did "accidently" delete them.
Render files are temporary. Always make self contained files when you're finished with a project. You'll have a lot less accidents.
