Can't make multiclips from nested sequences?

I have four cameras that shot a concert. Firestore created multiple QT movies, about 15 for each camera, based on the 2gig limit.

I nested all the clips for each camera into one individual clip for each camera. All timecode is synced now I just want to create a multicam for the four cameras and can't do it...am I missing a step somewhere?

Might be more of a pain than it's worth... try exporting each of your nests at full res and re-importing them. Set the new clip's AUX TCs to sync them up and cut away... That might work.

Here I thought I was doing myself a favor by choosing Quicktime PN that I could bypass that Log and Transfer and not have to create .mov files from .mxf's at 2x the drive space

Arges I'll try your idea, that's the path I was heading down when I posted. So much for time saving and saving drive space lol.

DJ are you suggesting just lining up the cameras as 4 video layers and cutting that way? The benefit for multi cam is I can see all 4 cams at the same time and make selections based on clicking on each individual video track. If something else is mean by alignment I'm all ears. Thanks!

Nope that's it. But to be honest the key to multicam editing is making sure all cameras are always rolling at the same time. That way you end up with pieces of original media you can sync. If they are all stopping and starting at different times and you have to nest things to get all the action that defeats the purpose. So as stated above you have two options:

export each nested sequence as a discrete clip, say to ProRes. Then you'll be able to gang those into multiclips for multicam editing.

Or simply stack up the nests 4 in a line and do razor cuts. That's how it was done up until FCP 4 or 5- whenever Multiclips came out. It's not that trick honestly.

So whichever way you go depends on what method you prefer and how much time you have. If this is a 10 minute piece then exporting ProRes is a no-brainer for each angle.

The show is 2 hours. I just nested the QT files into one sequence for each cam, then exported and re-imported. Multicam works perfect. Thanks for all the replies!
