can't import footage from a Sony (deck won't initialize)

I'm trying to help a friend dump some of his footage from a Sony cam. I've only used my DVX & HVX, which is always fine with log and capture, but I can't "initialize his video deck" the same way. I did a search but couldn't find anything.

Any help?

It's a little Sony Handicam, model number DCR-DVD101. It records to mini DVD R/RW discs. It's not my camera.

*Highly* doubt that cam is supported by FCP.

So just because it's a cheap camera, FCP can't see it??

Are there only certain cameras FCP will work with? (Or plug ins for those it can't see)

I really need to get this footage somehow.
