can't get voice over to record direct to timeline (CS6 on a mac)

I followed all the instructions EXACTLY as they appear on this video

In audio hardware preferences, I have my "Built in" input selected for the comp's 1/8th line in from my zoom recorder's headphone jack. Track 1 is armed in the mixer, input selected to "built in" and track 1 is selected in the timeline. Hit record, hit play, the timeline playhead starts to move, I speak into the mic, "check check" hit stop. No track appears on the timeline. Nothing is recorded. I have gone through the comp's audio midi setup and have confirmed that levels are indeed coming through this input.

Any ideas?

Problem SOLVED, in case anyone is wondering.

The mixer will only record to the timeline to a point within the IN and OUT points. Not the "work area" in and outs, but the timeline in and outs.

Edit: NEVERMIND. Still broken. I got it to record once. Now it doesn't want to record anymore. Even within the set in and outs.

Edit 2: works again. in / outs don't matter. This time I switched it from "built in input" (which I am using) to "system default" in audio hardware preferences. Started working.
