Can't export to tape from my Canon XH-A1 with CS4

I've seen this problem bounced around on various forums. Some people say they can get it to work, others can't. My problem: I'm trying to export to tape from CS4. The camera (Canon XH-A1S) has been detected, I choose export to tape, the "render and record" starts, and then when the rendering has completed and the recording starts, the camera registers an error that says "check your HDV/DV IN connection", and the camera stops recording before it even starts. Meanwhile, premiere is still apparently outputting the data, seemingly unaware of any kind of problem. Any help here would be appreciated!
 
That's a bummer. Can anyone suggest a good workflow work-around for this? Sounds like I might need to export from a different editing suite. Are there any cheap editing packages that are pc based that will let you export to tape?
