I captured a video into Final Cut Studio 2 (MiniDv tapes), then I was going to copy the file(video) into my Western Digital hard drive but it keep telling me that the files couldn't be copyed to the Hard Drive (error)
the Hard Drive is brand new and I was using FireWire 400.

I did a quick search on google and I found something that said some hard drive have a "copy file protection" so movie's can't be copyed or whatever.

has anyone had this kind of problem?
does anyone know how to fix it? so I can copy the video into the Hard Drive????

Might not be related to that at all; it might just be a file size issue. How big are the files you're trying to copy? External hard disks are typically formatted as FAT32, and if the file you're trying to copy over is more than 4GB in size then that would explain why it's having trouble.

ohhh...I see.
that must be the problem then. because the file size was about 15GB I think.....
so what should I do? should I stop capture after 30 minutes so the file wont get too big?

For DV, you hit the file size limit at about 18 minutes.

You could reformat the external hard drive as MacOS (but then you couldn't take it to a Windows system). Or you could reformat it as NTFS (but I don't think a Mac can write to NTFS). Or you could split up your files (drop 'em on your FCP timeline and then export out the first 15 minutes as one file to the external drive, then the next 15 minutes as another file to the external drive, etc instead of copying).

There might be other, better solutions, but that's what pops up in my head.
