Can't capture using DVX as deck

Hi,

I just installed Adobe CS3 and tried to use Premiere Pro and can't capture footage.

I'm using my DVX100A as a deck, using firewire from camera to back of computer. My computer is a DELL PC.

What should be selected in the capture settings in Premiere Pro? Do I have to go into the menu on the DVX and change any settings there? It is on VCR, not camera when I try to capture.

I had previously been using Premiere 6.5 and had no capture problems. Thanks for any advice.

Is the computer recognizing it at all?

1. Check your firewire to make sure it is working.

2. Make sure you have your capture settings on DV and not HDV. That could be it

If another program is doing it fine, then its probably something in your settings.
 
Thank you Mister Stocks, the capture settings are on DV, but I will buy a new firewire and hope that takes care of the problem.
 
I was reading another thread and someone mentioned the firewire on their camera being dead, you might want to check to see if another camera works so you can figure that one out. If it is dead, your cheapest solution is to find a cheap handycam on craigslist or ebay and use that as a capture deck from now on.

Yes, The DVX has a bad history of burnt firewire ports. Actually part of the board I've read. I spent many an hour trying to figure out why I couldn't get a DV out signal. It was burnt. Some say from numerous hot swapping episodes over time. Either way I just found a nice little panasonic PV-GS12 on Craigslist this morning, went and picked it up from a hot girls house a few hours ago for 75 bucks and it's dumping my footage just fine. Oh! and the handycams handle the 24p footage just fine also. I've been watching CL for about a week to find a Mini DV. Got lucky today. Whew! I had to sweet talk her cause she had someone else interested that was 30 minutes closer. So you may have to work for it! lol I gave her an extra 5 spot for being so sweet! Should have given her a 10. :/ Cory
