I plugged in my Canon HV20 and I can capture footage with Windows Movie Maker and with Vegas Movie Studio 4. But when I try to capture footage with Vegas Platinum 9 it keeps saying "No Device Selected" When I go to select the device all that shows is "IEEE 1394/MPEG2-TS DEVICE". I select that and it says that "Device is not available". I have no idea what's going on. Thank you for your help!

You have the camera in Play mode (not camera mode) and have the little card/tape switch on the side set to tape? I keep forgetting to do the latter after using my HV20 as a still camera :)

I have a couple of HV20s; on one of the cameras, the firewire port died. Hopefully that's not what's happened to your camera. But if you have another camera with firewire, you might check to see if Vegas recognizes it.

Alright I changed it to camera mode and that got it to recognize the device, but when I switch it to play mode to capture the footage I recorded earlier it keeps saying deivce is not available. The firewire is good and all. Don't know what is wrong! Thank you for your answers! =)

Ok, so when the camera's in Camera mode, Vegas's Capture function can see the live video feed? Good, that confirms the firewire signal is getting through.

Then changing the camera to Play mode does mean it briefly switches off - my guess is that Vegas isn't refreshing its hardware list from the operating system. I think there's actually a button somewhere in Capture to force a refresh, but can't remember where. The other option is to have the camera turned on (in Play mode) before Vegas starts - that way Vegas doesn't get confused by the camera briefly being Off when the mode changes.
