Cant capture footage from my canon xa-a1!!

I have no idea what else to try here. I've tried the various "easy set ups" in Final cut 5.1. I can rewind, play, pause my camera through the capture window but nothing will appear on the screen. And when I try to capture now, I get this message..."No Data from Device...Capture was aborted due to lack of incoming data from device. Check your connections and that the deck is playing."

I recored the footage at 24, 1080 HDV...my fire wire is brand new and shouldnt be a problem.

Any ideas??

Couple thoughts:
Are you running Snow Leopard? If so, you must install Final Cut 7, or downgrade to Leopard.
On your XH A1 Screen, is the HDV/In flashing? If so, your firewire port most likely is blown. It should be solid.

Yea, Im running snow leopard. So are you sure this is the problem? Because getting Final Cut 7 won't be easy for me. Iw as hoping it would be something alot simpler...
