Can't access Ebay?

please, turn the lights down low....and this question goes out to all the eggheads out there....

Okay, I have my friends laptop (Windows XP) and my laptop (Windows 7) directly in front of me at my place and can access EBAY, for example on BOTH computers. However, when I click on a product page to review the product information, I can review it just fine on my computer but on HIS computer I am getting the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" window. I have installed Firefox and tried to access it through Firefox but I get the "Problem Loading Page" tab; and on the screen it reads "Unable to connect; Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at cgi.ebay.com." It's as if there is no Internet connection but I know there is considering all is well and good on my laptop, and his with general surfing.

Now, in an effort to troubleshoot, I've tried to disable Windows Firewall and AVGFree. That doesn't help. I've turned them both back on. No good. I've turned one off and left one on then alternated between the two: nothing. I've tried to lower the Internet Security to LOW. It still doesn't work.

When my friend explained this problem to me (who knows nothing about the workings of computers; he's one of them thar car handy guys) I laughed thinking it would be a super simple fix. Well, that was last night and I'm still scratching my head.

Anyone encounter this before and/or have any suggestions? I assume that if this is happening on EBAY, it's probably going to happen on other sites as well...it's just that it shouldn't be happening at all on any site. So, Ebay is my official site-barometer for troubleshooting this problem.

Thanks-
Rickey

UPDATE: Figured it out. For anyone who is or will experience this problem in the future the problem was with the HOST file. C/windows/system32/etc/host (open with NOTEPAD) and delete that entire list of "blocked" sites. Once I did that it everything was Golden. I'm guessing the virus threw them on there...
