Wow, I just got done loading 1080p footage into Edius. It scrubbed and played in real time, I did simple cuts and it handled it no problem.

I have a Dell Workstation 670 with a single 2.8 Xeon processor and 512mb Ram.

I was using a SATA pci card with external SATAs - they are not raided at all.

I was really impressed with the speed I can move around and do things. I was never really good at using Premiere, in the sense that I can't edit fast, but I really took to this program.

It doesn't have sophisticated audio controls, the color correction is pretty decent. I basically used RGB gamma and dropped the black levels. Nothing complicated, but it can do basic color correction well.

I am definitely buying this in a couple of months when I start my short film. After using it for an hour, I don't think I can live without it now.

When you purchase I recommend the Edius Pro 3 Broadcast with NX. The Nx card allows you to view the footage with an HDTV monitor. You should go with Dual Xeon Or Dual Core AMD . I use the Dual Xeon 3.4 2 gig Ram 7800 nvidia. 500 Raid 0's When you start applying 3 or 4 PNP, color correct, filters. ETC you gonna need some Mulepower (HeHaw) Good idea to join us in the Canopus Forum. Ther are lguys willing to help you make the decision

Do they sell Just the NX card seperate or only in a bundle as i already have broadcast. Card would be nice!

The EDIUS hardware always comes with EDIUS Pro or EDIUS Broadcast software (there's a slight difference in the software as the hardware versions don't require activation and include the hardware output project settings). You existing Broadcast dongle and options would work with the EDIUS Pro version that comes with NX, and your existing EDIUS Broadcast software-only version would be great on a mobile machine - just don't forget your dongle.

I alrerady had Edius pro on my NX machine and then I ordered a Dual Core AMD laptop . I tried to install the Edius Pro on the laptop that came with the NX. It would not work so I called Canopus and they said that the software was differant. So I ordered the other version so now I can edit on my laptop.
Everything works but you do not have HDTV out. We hope Canopus builds a standalone box that will allow this.

Go into the settings menu under playback and uncheck: Stop Playback at Frame Drop.

The help on the different timeline colors explains a bit more but essentially a clip will initially come in red if its parameters don't match the project's.

There are 4 colors: Red, Orange, Blue and Green.
Red = clip properties don't match project settings or area was unsuccessful in playing back in realtime.
Orange = area has not yet been played back in realtime
Blue = area has played back in realtime
Green = area has been rendered

This does not mean that it won't play back in realtime, it just means that EDIUS thinks it's unlikely. If EDIUS does play it back in realtime, the red will be replaced by blue.

It all depends on what your project framesize/framerate is... Any clips that don't match will need be adjusted in realtime during playback, thus causing more work on the CPU.

thats cool, obvioulsy im in no postion to judge at this time...but Vegas just plays whatever you put in...Im spoiled...but as we know...its not up to speed on HD.
On same computer i can pull in same footage to VV regrdless of project settings and put 10 blur 5 lightray , stacked tracks with tweeky composite levels and 20 reverbs on and still run blurs in photoshop while sending email.

i will call tech support tommorow to give it a better run....
