Hi,

I am currently using a canopus ADVC 110. Does anyone know if a 6-pin fire wire cable will fit into a 4 - pin firewire port on a computer?

thanks,

Patrick

Re: Canopus ADVC 110 Firewire

you can use a 6-pin to 4-pin or a 4-pin to 4-pin or whatever combination works for you. The other two pins are really for delivering power from what I understand and aren't needed for data transfer.

Don't know if you know this, but for those who don't the 4-pin provides no power whereas the 6-pin does. You definitely don't want to plug a 6-pin connector into your advc because the power it provides can fry the thing...

thats interesting because i have and ADVC100 with a 6 pin on the back and a 4 pin on the front and i use the 6 pin to connect to the computer.
The ADVC100 is powered by a small adapter and have had no Frying problems.
I alway thought that it he device needed power then the 6 pin would supply it but if powered alternately the 6 pin power would have no effect.
