Canon Xh A1 Experience

Has anyone had any success recording directly with the Canon's XH A1 for ENG/Doc work?

Are you using mic on cam, boom, boom with mixer, wireless?

Thanks so much in advance.

I hate the audio knob on the A1. It's sunken into the body which makes it hard to change on the fly. I was filming a show the other day with a direct feed from the theatre board into both channels. Halfway through the show I realized that the audio was blowing out and I couldn't find the knob in the dark to adjust it (just got the cam so I couldn't even remember which way is up or down). I would definitely recommend adjusting the level before hand or set it a bit lower than the max because it's hard to adjust.

The good part with sunken audioknobs is, that its hard to accidentaly change the values with bumps or clothing. The bad part is its hard to adjust...

btw: for close, the adjusting direction is above. :-)

Never used that camera but I agree with xray; a recessed knob that is harder to bump is actually better. The original DVX's (non-a,b) audio gain was VERY easily bumped. Damn thing could get tweaked even just while trying to tape the thing down. The DVX100a fixed this, thank god. Panasonic does do a really good job of listening to customer feedback.

Cheers
